Kumbh Rashifal for 20 Mar: Work, Love and Health

Aaj ka Kumbh rashifal, read from your Moon sign. Kumbh (कुंभ) is the 11th rashi, 300° to 330° of the sidereal zodiac, ruled by Saturn, and it holds Dhanishta padas 3 and 4, all four padas of Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada padas 1 to 3. In English it is called Aquarius, but here it means the sign the Moon was in at your birth, not your birthday sign. Every line below names its graha, the house that graha holds from Kumbh and the classical verse behind it.

  • Lord: every classical text we read gives Saturn. Some modern writers add Rahu as a co-lord of Kumbh; no text we read says so, so it is not used here.

A name rashi is the janma rashi only when the name was chosen from the birth nakshatra's syllable. Each fact is given in at least two classical texts, and where the texts differ both readings are shown. Left out: the element (tattva), which only one of the texts we read gives (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra 4); and any colour, number or stone for a rashi, which none of them ties to good fortune.

Questions

Kumbh Rashi Questions

Who is the lord (swami) of Kumbh rashi?

Saturn, the lord of Kumbh, is in Kumbh on 20 Mar, the 1st house, Kumbh itself, until 29 Mar, 9:45 PM. Saturn rules Kumbh in every classical text we read: Brihat Jataka 1.6, Saravali 3.11 and Phaladeepika 1.6. Saturn also rules Makar.

Which name letters (naam akshar) belong to Kumbh rashi?

On 20 Mar, the Moon is in Vrishchik; its next stay in Kumbh runs from Wednesday 26 Mar, 3:15 PM to 28 Mar, 4:48 PM: a child born in those hours has Kumbh as janma rashi. Kumbh's nine name syllables, one for each nakshatra pada, are Gu, Ge (Dhanishta 3–4); Go, Sa, Si, Su (Shatabhisha 1–4); Se, So, Da (Purva Bhadrapada 1–3). A name starting with one of them gives Kumbh as the name rashi, which matches the janma rashi only when the name was chosen from the birth nakshatra.

Which nakshatras are in Kumbh rashi?

On 20 Mar, the Moon is in Anuradha; its next pass through Kumbh begins in Dhanishta pada 3, from Wednesday 26 Mar, 3:15 PM. Kumbh covers 300° to 330° of the sidereal zodiac: Dhanishta padas 3 and 4, all four padas of Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada padas 1 to 3, nine nakshatra padas in all, as every rashi has (Brihat Jataka 1.4, Hora Sara 1.13). If your rashi is Kumbh, your birth nakshatra is one of these.

What are Kumbh rashi people like?

The texts agree mainly on build: a tall, sturdy frame with broad hips and strong legs. Two of them also describe a liking for travel and the stamina for long journeys. On temperament they say different things, so only these shared points are given. These are the points that at least two of Brihat Jataka 17.11, Saravali 23.72 and Hora Sara 29.11 share. Brihat Jataka 17.13 adds that this picture holds in full only when the Moon, Kumbh and its lord Saturn are all strong in the birth chart, and Hora Sara 29.13 that a graha joining or aspecting the Moon changes it, so your own kundli says more than the rashi alone.

When do Sade Sati and Shani dhaiya start and end for Kumbh rashi?

Sade Sati is running for Kumbh on 20 Mar, in its second phase: Saturn is in Kumbh, the 1st house, Kumbh itself. It began on 24 Jan 2020 and ends with Saturn's final exit on 23 Feb 2028, with Saturn stepping out of it from 3 Jun 2027 to 20 Oct 2027. The next dhaiya (4th house) for Kumbh runs from 8 Aug 2029 to 31 May 2032, with Saturn stepping out of it from 5 Oct 2029 to 17 Apr 2030. Each span runs from Saturn's first entry to its final exit, with every pause shown, and is counted from the Moon sign as Phaladeepika 26.22–23 and Brihat Samhita 104 count it. Classically Sade Sati and dhaiya ask for steady effort and patience; neither is a fixed outcome.

When does the time change for Kumbh rashi?

Saturn moves into Meen on 29 Mar, 9:45 PM, the 2nd house from Kumbh; Jupiter moves into Mithun on 14 May, 10:37 PM, the 5th house from Kumbh; Rahu moves into Kumbh and Ketu into Singh on 30 May, 12:18 AM, the 1st and 7th houses from Kumbh (true node; by the mean node many almanacs print, on 18 May). Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu–Ketu stay in a sign for many months, so their changes set the background for Kumbh, and each change above names the house it brings. The daily reading on this page weighs all nine grahas together, and no rashi has a good or a poor time as a whole.

What is Kumbh rashi in English?

On 20 Mar, at 12:00 PM, the Sun is in Pisces 29°54′ by the tropical zodiac that birthday signs use, but in Meen 5°41′ by the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology. Kumbh is called Aquarius in English, yet a rashi is the Moon's sign at birth in the sidereal zodiac, not the birthday sign, so someone whose birthday makes them Aquarius need not have Kumbh rashi.

The Moon's strength for you, counted from your Moon sign: houses 1, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 are good.
Tarabala
The strength of the day's nakshatra for you, counted from your birth nakshatra in rounds of nine.
Sade Sati
Saturn's passage through the 12th, 1st and 2nd from your Moon sign, about seven and a half years; the name is common these days and many panchangs give it; the houses are in Phaladeepika 26.22–23.
Retrograde (vakri)
Seen from Earth the graha appears to move backwards; shown as a fact only, as the texts differ on its meaning in transit.
Direct (margi)
The graha moves forward again after a retrograde spell.
Combust (asta)
Lost in the Sun's glare; in a favourable house its support is muted (Phaladeepika 26.32). Guru and Shukra: while not seen from India's reference latitude, 23°11′N (IAE); Mars, Mercury and Saturn by the books' degrees (Surya Siddhanta 9.6–9.8).
Felt most
The third of a sign in which a graha's transit is classically felt most: the Sun and Mars the first, Jupiter and Venus the middle, the Moon and Saturn the last (Phaladeepika 26.25; Muhurta Chintamani 4.19).
Mean-node reckoning
Rahu and Ketu by their average motion, which many almanacs print; its dates can differ from the true node by days.
Panchang windows in your Chandrabala
Abhijit, Amrit Kalam, Brahma Muhurta, Vijaya or a Labh, Shubh or Amrit choghadiya, clear of Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Dur Muhurtam, Varjyam and Bhadra, inside the hours when the Moon is in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th or 11th from your Moon sign.
Exalted (uchcha)
The sign where a graha is strongest (BPHS ch. 3).
Debilitated (neecha)
The sign opposite its exaltation, where a graha is weakest (BPHS ch. 3).
Unfriendly sign
A sign whose lord the graha naturally counts as hostile (BPHS ch. 3).
Work and Money
Our grouping: read from the 10th, 6th, 3rd, 11th, 2nd and 12th houses from your Moon sign, whose meanings name this area (BPHS ch. 11).
Love and Family
Our grouping: read from the 7th, 4th and 2nd houses from your Moon sign, whose meanings name this area (BPHS ch. 11).
Health

What supports
A graha in a house the texts count favourable, with nothing holding it back, or counted supportive by reverse vedha (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4).
Points that call for patience
Every other graha, each with the fact that puts it there: a house the texts do not count favourable, vedha, a debilitation or unfriendly sign, combustion, its own or exaltation sign in an unfavourable house, the Moon's company, or Chandrashtama.
House meaning
What each house stands for (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra ch. 11): 1 self and body, 2 family, wealth and speech, 3 courage and siblings, 4 mother, home and happiness, 5 children, education and intelligence, 6 health, work and competition, 7 marriage and partnership, 8 research and hidden matters, 9 fortune, dharma and father, 10 career and karma, 11 gains and friends, 12 expenses, foreign lands and moksha.
