At 7:50 PM, the Moon is at 11°42′ in Kumbh, in Shatabhisha nakshatra, pada 2; it stays in Kumbh until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM, then moves into Meen. Each rashi on the wheel shows the house the Moon holds from it.

Coloured by the Moon's strength from each rashi (Chandrabala). Small dots: the yogataras, the stars that mark the 27 nakshatras, at their real longitudes. The Moon's place on the wheel is updated every minute. Sidereal position, Lahiri ayanamsa, from NASA JPL DE440s through our own engine. Only the Moon moves on the wheel.

Star positions: Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 5th ed. (Hoffleit & Warren, 1991; NASA HEASARC, public domain). Star names: IAU Working Group on Star Names (CC BY 4.0). Moon and planets: NASA JPL DE440s.

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh all day, until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM.

Why Our Rashifal Reads Differently

Every line shows its reason
Each line of every reading names the graha behind it, the house that graha holds from your rashi and the classical verse that reads it, so you can check the reasoning yourself.
Exact to the minute
When the Moon or another graha changes sign during the day, the page gives the minute and shows the day in parts. Only the turning points of Jupiter and Saturn, whose speed is close to zero then, are given by date.
One system, all the way through
Every reading is counted from the Moon sign (janma rashi) in the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa, as Vedic gochar is read. No sun-sign date ranges and no mixing of systems; Rahu and Ketu use the true node, with the mean-node date shown beside it.
Hindi and English say the same
Both languages come from one calculation, line for line, and a test checks that every line carries the same tone, supportive, mixed or patience, in both.
Checked against Swiss Ephemeris
Positions come from NASA JPL's DE440s ephemeris through our own engine. Over the 2,922 days of 2025–2032 our signs for 8 grahas never differed from Swiss Ephemeris, and 405 sign changes agreed within 1.06 arc-seconds.
Nothing made up
No star ratings, scores or percentages, and no colour or number of the day: no classical rule gives them, so every line comes only from the planet positions and their stated rules.

Aaj ka Rashifal

Which Rashi Is Mine? Moon Sign, Name Rashi and Sun Sign

Moon sign (janma rashi)
The sign the Moon was in at your birth. A Vedic rashifal is read from it, and so is this page.
Sun sign
The birthday sign of Western astrology, from the tropical zodiac. It is a different system; for most people it is not their rashi.
Name rashi
The rashi of your name's first syllable. It matches your janma rashi only when the name was given from your birth nakshatra's syllable, so use it only when the birth date is not known.
Find your rashi from your birth date

Used only for this answer; your birth details are not saved.

Your janampatrika gives your rashi, nakshatra and lagna exactly, from your birth date, time and place. Make my janampatrika

Aaj ka Rashifal

The 12 Rashis in Hindi and English, with Their Lords

The name syllables are a fallback for finding a rashi when the birth date is not known: a name rashi is not the janma rashi unless the name was given from the birth nakshatra. Sign names in English are given for reference only; no Western date range applies to a rashi.

How We Work Out the Rashifal: Moon-Sign Gochar, NASA JPL DE440s, Lahiri Ayanamsa

How the numbers are checked

Planet positions
Every position comes from NASA JPL's DE440s ephemeris through our own engine, sidereal with Lahiri ayanamsa. Over 2,922 days and 8 grahas our signs never differed from Swiss Ephemeris, and 405 sign changes agreed within 1.06 arc-seconds.
Turns and combustion
Retrograde and direct turns of Mercury and Venus agree with Swiss Ephemeris within a minute and are printed to the minute; for Jupiter and Saturn, whose speed is near zero at the turn, only the date is printed. Combustion edges agree within 0.06 arc-seconds of the orb.
Rahu and Ketu
Every reading uses the true node, as our kundli does. Many almanacs print the mean node, which can change sign about ten days apart, so its date is shown beside ours. Our mean node agrees with Swiss Ephemeris within 0.13 arc-seconds.
When the page changes
Each day's page covers the calendar date from 12:00 AM to midnight in the page's time zone (IST by default) and is worked out from the positions alone; no line is written or edited by hand. A past day's page stays as it was.

What this page applies

  • Every house is counted from your Moon sign, as Phaladeepika 26.1 directs, in the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa) with NASA JPL DE440 positions; Rahu and Ketu use the true node, as our kundli does, with the mean-node date many almanacs print shown beside it.
  • A transit's house verdict follows Phaladeepika 26.2, Brihat Samhita 104.4 and Muhurta Chintamani 4.1–3, which agree; the result named for each house is used only where Phaladeepika and Brihat Samhita agree.
  • Vedha is counted from your Moon sign (Narada), with no vedha between the Sun and Saturn or the Moon and Mercury.
  • Rahu and Ketu in a favourable house are held back in the same way by any of the seven grahas (Muhurta Chintamani 4.1; Kalaprakashika 36.18).
  • Reverse vedha counts a placement that asks for patience as supportive while another graha sits in its paired favourable house (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4; Narada Samhita 12.8), counted from your Moon sign; it never changes Chandrashtama.
  • In a favourable house, a graha in its debilitation sign or in an unfriendly sign gives muted support (Phaladeepika 26.32; Brihat Samhita 104.53).
  • In a favourable house, a graha close to the Sun (combust) gives muted support (Phaladeepika 26.32; Narada Samhita 12.11).
  • In a house that asks for patience, a graha in its own or exaltation sign does not work against you (Phaladeepika 26.31; Kalaprakashika 36.12).
  • When own or exaltation sign and combustion meet, no text read ranks one above the other, so the row is shown as mixed with both facts.
  • When the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu shares the Moon's sign, a supportive Moon's support is counted as muted (Muhurta Chintamani 4.7; Brihat Samhita 104.56); it never makes a line harsher. Another companion is shown as a fact only, as its effect rests on one text.
  • In the bright half of the month (Shukla paksha) the Moon is also counted supportive in the 2nd, 5th and 9th, unless a graha other than Mercury sits in the 6th, 4th or 8th (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4; Narada Samhita 13.2). It is its own line and never changes the 12-rashi grid or the day's label.
  • The Moon in the 8th stays Chandrashtama whatever else applies, and it sets the label for the hours it covers; when it covers only part of the day, that part is named in the headline. This order is our own method.
  • The three life areas are our own grouping of houses whose meanings in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra ch. 11 name them: work and money (10th, 6th, 3rd, 11th, 2nd, 12th), love and family (7th, 4th, 2nd), health (1st, 6th).
  • Rahu or Ketu in the 10th is read as a time for patience, as five texts read it (Muhurta Chintamani, Kalaprakashika, Sharngadhara, Jyotihprakasha and Shripati); Phaladeepika counts it favourable, so 'Texts differ' is shown beside it.
  • Retrograde is shown as a fact only. The texts disagree on what it means in transit, so a retrograde graha is read from the sign it occupies.
  • The day's label is our own method, not a classical score: the Moon leads the day, Chandrashtama overrides, and the count of all nine grahas is shown beside it.
  • There is no number or colour of the day here: no classical text gives one for a rashi's day. Your supportive hours come from the panchang instead.

What it leaves out, and why

  • Rahu and Ketu are given no exaltation or own sign here, because the texts disagree on them.
  • The classical texts say a favourable placement is held back by 'other grahas' without saying whether Rahu and Ketu count, so we count only the seven visible grahas as obstructors.
  • Reverse vedha is not applied to Rahu and Ketu: only one text reads it that way, so a node in a house that asks for patience is counted there as it is.
  • Other Moon rules of Muhurta Chintamani 4.7 (the Moon between two such grahas, 7th from one, or relieved by a friend's navamsha) are not used: the texts do not define them the same way.
  • The tara rows use the nine taras only. The round-of-nine refinement (Muhurta Chintamani 4.13) rests on one verse that is read two ways, so it is not used.
  • The sign total (sarvashtakavarga) is shown as a number only: the bands of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (above 30, 25 to 30, below 25) are not confirmed by a second text, and Phaladeepika uses 28 instead, so no band is given.
  • Rahu and Ketu have no ashtakavarga of their own, so no bindus are read for them.
  • Kakshya timing is described in Phaladeepika 23.16–19 as another school's view and is not found in the other texts, so it is not used.
  • The ingress-moment rule (Muhurta Chintamani 3.19; Narada Samhita 11.26) is for the month and is not part of the daily page.
  • The texts say some grahas begin to act before they change sign (the Sun 5 days, Mars 8 days, Saturn 6 months, Rahu and Ketu 3 months); this belongs to the yearly view and is not shown here. For Mercury, Venus and Jupiter the texts give different figures, so those are not used.
  • Horas are listed as facts. The rule that a hora suits the work of its lord's weekday (Muhurta Chintamani 1.56; Narada Samhita 5.20) is confirmed, but the lists of each weekday's work still need a second check, so no hora advice is given.
  • Saturn's 'paya' (gold, silver, copper or iron) is not shown: no verse for it was found in the main texts, and the popular rules disagree.

Supportive (reverse vedha)
A transit in a house that asks for patience, counted supportive because another graha sits in its paired favourable house (reverse vedha).
Held back (vedha)
A favourable transit obstructed by another graha in its vedha house.
Support muted
A favourable transit whose graha is debilitated, in an unfriendly sign or close to the Sun, so its support is counted as muted.
Mixed
The texts pull both ways (its own or exaltation sign while close to the Sun), or the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu shares a supportive Moon's sign, so the transit is counted neither supportive nor a time for patience.
Eased
A transit in a house that asks for patience, eased because the graha is in its own or exaltation sign (Phaladeepika 26.31).
A time for patience
A transit in a house the texts count unfavourable: a time for steady effort and simple plans.
Chandrashtama: go gently
The Moon in the 8th sign from your Moon sign; traditionally a time to keep plans simple and go slow on big new decisions.
Supportive
Our label for the day when its lead graha, the Moon, is supportive for your rashi (by its house, or by reverse vedha).
Mixed
Our label for the day when the Moon is held back, muted or eased, or shares its sign with the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu.
A time for patience
Our label for the day when the Moon is in a house that asks for patience, or in Chandrashtama.
Gochar (transit)
The movement of the grahas through the signs, read from your Moon sign (Phaladeepika 26.1).
Moon sign (janma rashi)
The sign the Moon was in at your birth; every house here is counted from it.
House (bhava)
The count of signs from your Moon sign; the Moon sign itself is the 1st.
Vedha (obstruction)
A favourable transit is held back while another graha sits in its paired house (Phaladeepika 26.3–8).
Reverse vedha (vama vedha)
A transit that asks for patience is counted supportive while another graha sits in its paired favourable house (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4; Narada Samhita 12.8).
The Moon's company
The grahas in the Moon's sign; the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu there mute a supportive Moon (Muhurta Chintamani 4.7; Brihat Samhita 104.56).
Bright half (Shukla paksha)
The waxing fortnight, from the new moon to the full moon; then the Moon is also counted supportive in the 2nd, 5th and 9th (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4; Narada Samhita 13.2).

Direct (margi)
The graha moves forward again after a retrograde spell.
Combust (asta)
The graha is so close to the Sun that it is lost in its glare; in a favourable house its support is counted as muted (Phaladeepika 26.32; Narada Samhita 12.11).
Felt most
The third of a sign in which a graha's transit is classically felt most: the Sun and Mars the first, Jupiter and Venus the middle, the Moon and Saturn the last (Phaladeepika 26.25; Muhurta Chintamani 4.19).
True node
Rahu and Ketu by their actual wobbling motion, as our kundli uses.
Mean-node reckoning
Rahu and Ketu by their average motion, which many almanacs print; its dates can differ from the true node by days.
Texts differ
The classical texts read this placement differently; we follow most of them and name the text that differs.

Questions

Rashifal Questions

Which rashi should I read: Moon sign, sun sign or name rashi?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh all day, until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM, and every reading on this page is counted from the Moon sign (janma rashi), as Phaladeepika 26.1 directs. Read your Moon sign. A name rashi matches it only when the name was given from the birth nakshatra's syllable; a sun sign belongs to another system.

What is my rashi, and how do I find it?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh, so anyone born now has Kumbh rashi: your rashi is the sign the Moon was in at your birth. Give your birth date, and the time if you know it, in the finder on this page, or make your janampatrika for the rashi, nakshatra and lagna together.

Can I find my rashi from my date of birth without the birth time?

Today, the Moon stays in Kumbh all day; its next change is at Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM. So usually yes: the Moon stays about two and a half days in a sign, and on most dates one rashi covers the whole day; when it changed sign that day, our finder shows both rashis with the time of the change instead of guessing.

How do I know my rashi from my name?

Today, the Moon's nakshatra Shatabhisha gives the name syllables Go, Sa, Si, Su. Each of the 108 nakshatra padas has one syllable, and nine padas make a rashi, so the first syllable of a name points to a rashi; the table of the 12 rashis on this page lists them. It is a fallback: a name rashi is not the janma rashi unless the name was given from the birth nakshatra.

What is the difference between name rashi and janma rashi?

A child born today has Kumbh as janma rashi, the Moon's sign at birth. A name rashi comes from the name's first syllable instead; Shatabhisha syllables such as Go, Sa, Si, Su fall in Kumbh (padas 1–4). The two agree only when the name was chosen from the birth nakshatra.

What is chandra rashi (Moon sign)?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh all day, until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM. The sign the Moon occupies at your birth, in the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa), is your chandra rashi. The Moon moves through all 12 signs in about 27 days, so it is the most personal of the daily signs.

My birthday makes me Aquarius. Is my rashi Kumbh?

Today, at 12:00 PM, the Sun is at 4°02′ of Tula in the sidereal zodiac and at 28°16′ of Libra in the tropical zodiac that birthday signs use; the two zodiacs are about 24° apart. So not necessarily: a birthday sign is the Sun's, while your rashi is the Moon's sign at birth, and for most people the two differ. Your birth date, time and place settle it.

What is the difference between rashi and lagna?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh, and that sign names the rashi of anyone born now. The lagna is the sign rising in the east at birth; it changes about every two hours, so it needs the birth time. The daily rashifal is read from the rashi; your kundli uses both.

What are the 12 rashis in Hindi and English?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh (Aquarius). The 12 are Mesh (Aries), Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) and Meen (Pisces). The table on this page adds each lord, its nakshatra padas and its name syllables.

How is today's rashifal worked out?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh all day, until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM. For each rashi we count the house of all nine grahas from it and read each by the classical gochar rules of Phaladeepika, Brihat Samhita and Muhurta Chintamani, with vedha, dignity and combustion. The why table under each reading shows every graha, its house and its verse.

In which rashi is the Moon today, and till when?

Today, the Moon is in Kumbh all day, until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM; the Moon's nakshatra is Dhanishta until 10:18 AM, then Shatabhisha. Times are in America/New_York.

Can the rashifal change during the day?

Today, no graha changes sign or combustion, so one reading holds all day. Whenever the Moon or another graha changes sign during a day, the reading is shown for each part with the exact minute of the change.

When is today's rashifal updated?

This page for Wednesday 21 October 2026 covers 12:00 AM to midnight in America/New_York, and the next day's reading takes over at midnight. Each day is worked out from the planet positions alone, and nothing is edited by hand.

Is the rashifal the same for everyone with my rashi?

Today, everyone with Kumbh rashi has the Moon in the 1st, so yes: on a given day the reading is the same for everyone with one rashi. A personal reading adds your nakshatra, your dasha and your ashtakavarga; signed in with your own kundli, this page shows it.

Is a rashifal accurate?

Today, the Moon stays in Kumbh all day; its next change is at Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM: a time from our engine, checked against Swiss Ephemeris like every time on this page, so the positions are exact. The reading describes the general weather of the day by Moon sign, by stated classical rules; it does not foretell fixed events, and every line names its basis so you can judge it.

Why do different sites show different rashifal?

Today, Saturn is in Meen by the sidereal zodiac we use but in Aries by the tropical one of Western sites: that is one of four reasons. The others are sun sign or Moon sign; the node (Rahu is in Kumbh until 25 Nov, 7:16 AM (EST) by the true node, then moves into Makar; by the mean-node reckoning many almanacs print, that change falls on 5 Dec); and lines written by hand or worked out, while ours come only from the positions and name their rule.

Which rashi has a good day today?

Today, by the Moon's strength alone, the Moon is supportive for Mesh, Vrishabh, Singh, Kanya, Dhanu and Kumbh; a time for patience for Mithun, Tula, Vrishchik, Makar and Meen; and Chandrashtama, a time to go gently, for Kark. Each rashi's full reading weighs the other grahas too, and no day is good or poor as a whole.

How will tomorrow be for my rashi?

Tomorrow, Thursday 22 October, the Moon is in Kumbh all day, until Friday 23 Oct, 5:34 AM. Tomorrow's line for every rashi is on this page, and the full reading opens with Tomorrow.

Which rashis have Sade Sati right now?

Today, Saturn is in Meen, so Sade Sati runs for Mesh (first phase), Meen (second phase) and Kumbh (third phase). Shani dhaiya runs for Singh (8th) and Dhanu (4th, kantaka).

When will my Sade Sati end?

Sade Sati now: Mesh: 29 Mar 2025 to the final exit on 30 May 2032; Kumbh: 23 Jan 2020 to the final exit on 23 Feb 2028, with a pause from 2 Jun 2027 to 19 Oct 2027; Meen: 28 Apr 2022 to the final exit on 16 Apr 2030, with a pause from 12 Jul 2022 to 17 Jan 2023 and a pause from 8 Aug 2029 to 5 Oct 2029. Each runs to Saturn's final exit, with every pause shown; the dates come from our engine and match the Sade Sati in our kundli.

Which rashis get Sade Sati or dhaiya in 2027?

Saturn moves into Mesh on 2 Jun 2027. From then, Sade Sati runs for Mesh (second phase), Vrishabh (first phase) and Meen (third phase) and dhaiya for Kanya (8th) and Makar (4th, kantaka). Saturn moves into Meen on 19 Oct 2027; Saturn moves into Mesh on 23 Feb 2028.

What is Sade Sati, and what are its three phases?

Today, Sade Sati runs for Mesh (first phase), Meen (second phase) and Kumbh (third phase). It is Saturn's stay in the 12th, 1st and 2nd sign from your Moon sign, about two and a half years each; the phases are named first, second and third. Classically it asks for steady effort and patience, and the dates on this page show when each phase begins and ends.

What is Shani dhaiya?

Today, dhaiya runs for Singh (8th) and Dhanu (4th, kantaka). It is Saturn's stay of about two and a half years in the 4th (kantaka) or the 8th sign from your Moon sign, counted the same way as Sade Sati.

What is gochar?

Today, for example, Jupiter is in Kark until 31 Oct, 2:33 AM, then moves into Singh. Gochar is the movement of the grahas through the signs, read from your Moon sign: each graha's house from it is favourable or asks for patience by the classical tables. The planet table on this page shows all nine.

When does Jupiter enter Singh?

Jupiter is in Kark until 31 Oct, 2:33 AM, then moves into Singh. Times are in America/New_York; the coming changes on this page give the house it brings for every rashi.

Aaj ka Rashifal

Your rashi is the start. Your janampatrika tells the rest.

A rashifal reads the day for everyone born under one Moon sign. Your janampatrika reads it for you alone: your lagna, your dasha and every graha in its house.

Get my janampatrika
