The Moon and planets are placed as seen from the Earth's centre; from your own place the Moon can look up to about 1° away from its spot here. Aaj ka Dhanu rashifal, read from your Moon sign. Dhanu (धनु) is the 9th rashi, 240° to 270° of the sidereal zodiac, ruled by Jupiter, and it holds all four padas of Mula, all four padas of Purva Ashadha and Uttara Ashadha pada 1. In English it is called Sagittarius, but here it means the sign the Moon was in at your birth, not your birthday sign. Every line below names its graha, the house that graha holds from Dhanu and the classical verse behind it.

A name rashi is the janma rashi only when the name was chosen from the birth nakshatra's syllable. Each fact is given in at least two classical texts, and where the texts differ both readings are shown. Left out: the element (tattva), which only one of the texts we read gives (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra 4); and any colour, number or stone for a rashi, which none of them ties to good fortune.

Questions
Dhanu Rashi Questions
Who is the lord (swami) of Dhanu rashi?
Jupiter, the lord of Dhanu, is in Kark on 21 Oct, the 8th house from Dhanu, until 31 Oct, 12:03 PM. Jupiter rules Dhanu in every classical text we read: Brihat Jataka 1.6, Saravali 3.11 and Phaladeepika 1.6. Jupiter also rules Meen.
Which name letters (naam akshar) belong to Dhanu rashi?
On 21 Oct, the Moon is in Kumbh; its next stay in Dhanu runs from 12 Nov, 2:19 PM to 15 Nov, 3:11 AM: a child born in those hours has Dhanu as janma rashi. Dhanu's nine name syllables, one for each nakshatra pada, are Ye, Yo, Bha, Bhi (Mula 1–4); Bhu, Dha, Pha, Dha (Purva Ashadha 1–4); Bhe (Uttara Ashadha 1). A name starting with one of them gives Dhanu as the name rashi, which matches the janma rashi only when the name was chosen from the birth nakshatra.
Which nakshatras are in Dhanu rashi?
On 21 Oct, the Moon is in Dhanishta; its next pass through Dhanu begins in Mula pada 1, from 12 Nov, 2:19 PM. Dhanu covers 240° to 270° of the sidereal zodiac: all four padas of Mula, all four padas of Purva Ashadha and Uttara Ashadha pada 1, nine nakshatra padas in all, as every rashi has (Brihat Jataka 1.4, Hora Sara 1.13). If your rashi is Dhanu, your birth nakshatra is one of these.
What are Dhanu rashi people like?
They are described as good speakers, skilled in arts and crafts, strong and bold, and versed in dharma and the shastras; the texts give them a long face and a prominent neck. These are the points that at least two of Brihat Jataka 17.9, Saravali 23.58 and Hora Sara 29.9 share. Brihat Jataka 17.13 adds that this picture holds in full only when the Moon, Dhanu and its lord Jupiter are all strong in the birth chart, and Hora Sara 29.13 that a graha joining or aspecting the Moon changes it, so your own kundli says more than the rashi alone.
When do Sade Sati and Shani dhaiya start and end for Dhanu rashi?
Shani dhaiya (kantaka, Saturn in the 4th) is running for Dhanu on 21 Oct: Saturn is in Meen, the 4th house from Dhanu. It began on 29 Mar 2025 and ends with Saturn's final exit on 23 Feb 2028, with Saturn stepping out of it from 3 Jun 2027 to 20 Oct 2027. The next dhaiya (ashtama, Saturn in the 8th) for Dhanu runs from 13 Jul 2034 to 27 Aug 2036. Each span runs from Saturn's first entry to its final exit, with every pause shown, and is counted from the Moon sign as Phaladeepika 26.22–23 and Brihat Samhita 104 count it. Classically Sade Sati and dhaiya ask for steady effort and patience; neither is a fixed outcome.
When does the time change for Dhanu rashi?
Jupiter moves into Singh on 31 Oct, 12:03 PM, the 9th house from Dhanu; Rahu moves into Makar and Ketu into Kark on 25 Nov, 5:46 PM, the 2nd and 8th houses from Dhanu (true node; by the mean node many almanacs print, on 5 Dec); Saturn moves into Mesh on 3 Jun 2027, 5:28 AM, the 5th house from Dhanu. Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu–Ketu stay in a sign for many months, so their changes set the background for Dhanu, and each change above names the house it brings. The daily reading on this page weighs all nine grahas together, and no rashi has a good or a poor time as a whole.
What is Dhanu rashi in English?
On 21 Oct, at 3:30 PM, the Sun is in Libra 28°01′ by the tropical zodiac that birthday signs use, but in Tula 3°48′ by the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology. Dhanu is called Sagittarius in English, yet a rashi is the Moon's sign at birth in the sidereal zodiac, not the birthday sign, so someone whose birthday makes them Sagittarius need not have Dhanu rashi.

- The movement of the grahas through the signs, read from your Moon sign (Phaladeepika 26.1).
- House (bhava)
- The count of signs from your Moon sign; the Moon sign itself is the 1st.
- Vedha (obstruction)
- A favourable transit is held back while another graha sits in its paired house (Phaladeepika 26.3–8).
- Reverse vedha (vama vedha)
- A transit that asks for patience is counted supportive while another graha sits in its paired favourable house (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4; Narada Samhita 12.8).
- The Moon's company
- The grahas in the Moon's sign; the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu there mute a supportive Moon (Muhurta Chintamani 4.7; Brihat Samhita 104.56).
- Bright half (Shukla paksha)
- The waxing fortnight, from the new moon to the full moon; then the Moon is also counted supportive in the 2nd, 5th and 9th (Muhurta Chintamani 4.4; Narada Samhita 13.2).
- Chandrabala
- The Moon's strength for you, counted from your Moon sign: houses 1, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 are good.
- Tarabala
- The strength of the day's nakshatra for you, counted from your birth nakshatra in rounds of nine.
- Shani's dhaiya
- Saturn's stay of about two and a half years in the 4th (kantaka) or the 8th from your Moon sign.
- Retrograde (vakri)
- Seen from Earth the graha appears to move backwards; shown as a fact only, as the texts differ on its meaning in transit.
- Direct (margi)
- The graha moves forward again after a retrograde spell.
- Combust (asta)
- The graha is so close to the Sun that it is lost in its glare; in a favourable house its support is counted as muted (Phaladeepika 26.32; Narada Samhita 12.11).
- Felt most
- The third of a sign in which a graha's transit is classically felt most: the Sun and Mars the first, Jupiter and Venus the middle, the Moon and Saturn the last (Phaladeepika 26.25; Muhurta Chintamani 4.19).
- Mean-node reckoning
- Rahu and Ketu by their average motion, which many almanacs print; its dates can differ from the true node by days.
- Texts differ
- The classical texts read this placement differently; we follow most of them and name the text that differs.
- Supportive hours
- The panchang's good windows for new work in your city, inside the hours when the Moon is supportive for your rashi.
- Exalted (uchcha)
- The sign where a graha is strongest (BPHS ch. 3).
